The Mother Ivey’s room is a ground floor bedroom. Dalswinton House has one ground floor bedroom equipped with lesser-abled guests in mind. It is, of course, suitable for anyone and is often the preferred choice for our visitors with dogs as it has its own door directly to the outside area. Increasingly, this room is being requested those guests who find the stairs difficult.

The room is twin bedded and located on the east side of the house with direct access to a parking bay just off the main drive. The room has limited views and will be shady for much of the day, however the south facing conservatory is available to all guests throughout the day to enjoy the far reaching views and, hopefully, sunshine.

The bedroom dimensions are 14ft x 9ft. There is an en-suite bathroom comprising of shower, hand basin and toilet. The shower has been equipped with a floor mounted pivoting support rail and there is also an adjustable angled stool beside the hand basin. Wheelchair users may experience some difficulty in manoeuvring into the bathroom, depending on the size of the chair used. From the internal bedroom door there is a short passageway leading to our lounge, conservatory, bar and breakfast room – all of which are on the same level floor. The main entrance is via the conservatory with a step up from outside to inside. We have 1.5 acres of formal gardens on an increasingly steep gradient going down the valley. The terrace is reached via steps but there is also a steep ramp down form the main garden path.

On arrival at Dalswinton, drive between the conservatory (on your left) and the main parking area (on the right) to the far end of the house and turn sharp left into the dedicated parking bay for Room 9.

Dogs are welcome (maximum of 3). There is a charge for dogs – see Tariff under Policies above for details.

NB: The ‘From’ price displayed is based on two adults sharing and does include additional cost for dog(s). When booking online total costs may vary slightly from those shown. This will be corrected and agreed with you prior to any deposit or full payment being taken. Please use the comment box when booking to make specific requests such as booking for dogs.

Most of the ground floor is on one level, including the bar, conservatory, lounge and dining room. The ground floor bedroom has access from the public lounge. The bar may be too high for those in a wheel chair, if this is the case service where you wish to sit will be offered. All public rooms on the ground floor are well lit with good colour contrast. The ground floor toilet facilities have a step up and are not suitable for wheel chair users.
There is no lift at Dalswinton. A bannister runs all the way up the stairs to the first floor on the left hand side. Corridors and stairs are well lit. 7 bedrooms are on the first floor, but all have level access from the corridor. 1 of the rooms (Room 5) still has an old staircase support pillar in the centre of the room. Bedroom lighting is of different levels. Non-feather or synthetic pillows are available on request. The fire alarm is audio only however systems have been put in place to ensure the safe exit of all guests in the case of an emergency. If you have any concerns on this issue we will be pleased to talk to you about the procedures. There is a ground floor bedroom with direct external access as well as access form the lounge. This bedroom has a number of facilities to aid the disabled but is not large enough for free wheel chair movement. Access to the Garden Lodge is not suitable for wheel chair users.
Most diets can be catered for by prior arrangement (except Vegans). Please let us know in advance if you have any special dietary needs. Chairs are non fixed in the dining room and stools are available at the bar. A large print menu is available on request or can be read to you.
Access to the pool terrace is via gated steps and slope. The slope is steep and the gates may be difficult to pen for wheel chair users. The pool has a steep depth change from 3ft to 6ft and is not recommended for novice, junior or persons with disabilities unless they are accompanied by and able bodied guest. The pool has a set of standard plastic and metal steps. We do not have a lifeguard and customer discretion is recommended.
The nature of our geography is such that the grounds are on a steep slope. Whilst there are paths, these are uneven and there are a number of steps within the gardens. The orchard is grassed but the ground is uneven and not on a level. Access to the meadow is via a set of railway sleeper steps which are steep and can be slippery in the wet. The meadow, by definition is uneven and the mown paths are not always suitable for guests with walking difficulties.
A non-refundable deposit is required to secure a reservation. However, should a booking be cancelled more than 2 months in advance of arrival date the deposit will be refunded, less £25.00 administration fee.

Please note that a charge will be made for soiling and/or damage caused by your dog(s). Please clean up after your dog. The area provides a dog friendly beach and walking (all year round) within 1.5 miles.
When booking more than 5 rooms, different policies and additional supplements may apply.
